In its latest advisory the National Hurricane Center said the rate at which the storm was strengthening was "bordering on the insane." It is now still strengthening but at a more normal rate. NHC says it is now officially a Cat 4 Dropping pressure, warm water and the impressive performance of the storm right now suggest it could approach 140mph winds at landfall which would take it up to Category 4 strength again.
Where We Are
Jeff Flock and his team are right where they were for hurricane Ivan: the beach at Gulf Shores. Flock was featured during a live report for his old colleagues at CNN at 10p ET just after the first rain band came ashore.
